Sketchbook - Joshua Tree

Here's a sketch I did while out in Joshua Tree last month. This was all I could get at that moment. The sun was coming down fast and we needed to make time to hike down before it was dark. Hopefully I could make a trip back sooner than later. This place is surreal.

Figure Drawing

Here are a few sketches from Karl Gnass' Advanced Figure Drawing class this past summer at the Animation Guild. There's something therapeutic about drawing the figure especially when you're surrounded by so much talent. I hope I could keep this going with other figure drawing workshops around town. I used color pencils (black, sepia & sanguine) on newsprint. The length of each pose ranged from 8 to 20 minutes.

Gustav Klimt - Studies

This past weekend I checked out Gustav Klimt's "The Magic of Line" exhibit at The Getty. It was cool to see the exhibit was geared more towards his sketches. I've always been a fan of the thought process before a finished piece. The exhibit is up until the 23rd of September. I highly recommend stopping by The Getty to view his work. Above are a few sketch studies I did at the exhibit.

Doctor - Gesture Drawing

August has been a month filled with surprises I must say. One more class left. I've definitely enjoyed my time at the Animation Guild. It's been a humbling experience. Above are quick sketches from last night. A very interesting topic. It was fun sketching this model. I used copic markers, a pentel stylo pen & a pentel brush pen. 3-5 minute poses.

Sketchbook - Yosemite

This past weekend I visited Yosemite. I haven't been back since I was a kid. I was fortunate enough to get a sketch in during one of our hikes up to Nevada Falls. That day was jammed packed with weird weather. Sunny one minute then thunder and showers the next. Luckily the weather the next day was perfect during my hike up to Half Dome (which btw was an amazing experience). I hope to make this an annual trip every summer.

Gesture Drawing

Here's a 5min ink sketch from Mark McDonnell's Gesture Drawing
class @ The Animation Guild. I have to admit... this is a tough class
for me. I'm used to 10+ minute life drawings. The average time
we get for poses vary from 30sec to 5min. So far I'm loving the class.
It's definitely a humbling experience.

G.O.A.T.

process:
If you know me well, you would know that I'm a huge
basketball fan. Although my favorite team is the Lakers, I grew up
during the Air Jordan era. Who could argue against the 6 rings,
5 time mvp, rookie of the year & the list goes on. Here's my
rendition of Jordan's famous 2nd Slam Dunk Championship & he
happens to be wearing the classic III's. Greatest of all time...

Zebra Quick Sketches

I met up with some friends at the zoo today. Surprisingly it wasn't
packed. The weather was nice but standing directly in the sunlight
was excruciating. Nonetheless it was a fun few hours and
the sketches below were the only ones worth posting.
Time to enjoy the rest of the day. Peace.

Pirate Captain

Yet another drawing club visit. Great poses from the model.
The facial expressions definitely made the visit worth it.

Drawing Club Sketch Dump

The Clockwork Pirate Girl

The Chef

1960's Spy

It has been a long month for me this May & I finally have time to
dump some sketches that are long overdue. On another note I signed
up for 2 classes that start next week. It's going to be a productive summer.

Dr. Sketchy's Los Angeles

Here are a few sketches from Dr. Sketchy's Tuesday evening @ Titmouse. I was a little late but it was an interesting/fun sketch session. I hope to catch more of these sessions in the near future.

Robo Cintiq

Day 5: Best Friend
At this very moment my best friend is my very own Cintiq.
Ever since I've opened the box I've been hooked spending
endless amounts of hours digital painting (or at least trying to).
So here it is... the machine that blew a whole through my wallet.
